ROOIBERG TURNS 50

Rooiberg last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, with an informal but stylish event – where the winery’s first Méthode Cap Classique was released to toast a tradition of growth, value-building and creativity.

The event was naturally linked to the red symbolism of the cellar’s name and the long-established Rooiberg brand, these days augmented by a wide range of products.

RESERVE PINOTAGE

All the effort in the vineyard and cellar contributes to a wine with an intense ruby-red colour. On the palate there's delightful banana flavours and charms of strawberry, redcurrant and blackberry.

This is supported by subtle vanilla notes from ageing in new barrels.

ROOIBERG BOASTS TWO WINES IN THE TOP 100

Rooiberg Winery not only achieved Top 100 (Double Platinum) status for two wines, but also capped it with a Grand Cru award for “best in class” with its first time participation in the National Wine Challenge. The best in its class, Pinotage, was the Rooiberg Reserve Pinotage 2014, which with the Rooiberg Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2014, also took a place among the 100 wines judged best in this tightly contested competition now in its sixth year and renamed the National Wine Challenge. This means Rooiberg is one of only 20 participants with Best in Class awards from more than 500 entries by leading South African wineries. Furthermore, this winery’s other three entries, garnered Double Gold awards. These were the Rooiberg Chardonnay Reserve 2014 and 2015 and the Rooiberg Red Muscadel 2014. Said Rooiberg cellarmaster André van Dyk,”This is an absolute fantastic result for us as winemakers. It is all about dedication, starting in the vineyards, harvesting, and lastly selecting the best grapes for our very best barrels. We then taste, blend and plan to ensure the wine showcases the best we as winemakers can create, always ensuring that the wine has our own personal touch. “We aim to create a product that we can be proud of and reflects our terroir while serving as a true showcase of our pedigree and passion. This recognition is both humbling and exciting for our team.” Rooiberg winemakers André Scriven and André van Dyk toast the success of their five winning entries in the National Wine Challenge 2016.

ROOIBERG BECOMES CUSTODIAN OF THE GAME RESERVE WINES

Rooiberg Winery is the new custodian and future owner of The Game Reserve wine range of Graham Beck Wines, following an agreement between these neighbouring Robertson Valley wineries that are leaders in nature conservation.

The Game Reserve labels will continue to feature the Graham Beck brand name and the two wineries will collaborate to ensure consistent quality and continuity, according to Rooiberg CEO Johan du Preez. The award-winning Game Reserve Wines will be locally distributed by Rooiberg’s network of distributors and agents with effect from    1 July 2016.

“The transition will be fully supported by the Graham Beck marketing and sales team, while their company will also support Rooiberg internationally with the wines being offered to the existing network of global agents and importers for continuity of supply. This development is a natural progression of our active growth strategy, brand essence and culture of conservation,” Du Preez added.
