ABOUT

Hennie de Bod started in the meat industry from 1989 when he had a small lamb and beef feeding lot in Worcester. In 1995 he owned 3 butcheries in Ceres, Worcester and Robertson.

As he was more interested in the farming side, he sold these 3 businesses.  He concentrated only on the feeding lots with all the animals coming from Namibia. In 1998 he bought a Municipality abattoir in Robertson.  From there he upgraded it to a Woolworths standard Abattoir as it is today.

Starting from 18 employees the company grew to 200 employees and still growing…."

ANIX TRADING CC

Bovine (cattle) hide: Bovine hides dominate the supply of leather in South Africa. They are mainly by-product of meat production supplied by feedlots. Sheep skin: It is produced with or without wool mainly for export market.

Our main purpose is the preparation of sheep and cow hide for export purposes. We also handle the buy and sell of wool. The store we used is classified as an intermediate store room, which means that we treat the raw product and then it is moved to an export store. Sheep hide are taken from the abattoir, then it is placed in wooden drums with salt and boric acid for 2 hours. After that the hides are packed on wooden pallets and moved to an export store.

Anix Trading is certified with a golden status store. Which means: This is the skin or hide that had been sourced from an approved registered abattoir where ante– and post–mortem examinations are routinely performed. These skins and hides must not originate from OIE recognized foot and mouth disease controlled areas of the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Kwazulu – Natal or the Kruger National Park. In the wool department all private hides are shaved and together with all purchases will be baled for sale. We also have a lot of private farmers that need their hides processed, but these are kept separate from the abattoirs hides.

ROBERTSON ABATTIOR

Robertson Abattoir is based in the Western Cape. It mainly processes lamb, mutton and beef.  Currently we are registered as a high throughput abattoir.  Daily sourcing of animals is mainly from the Western Cape and Southern Cape depending upon the season.  However we sometimes procure from Northern Cape as well.  Robertson has its own feedlot where we finish up to 6000 lamb at a time.

We believe we are unique when compared to other suppliers due to the long relationship we have with our clients such as Excellent Meat ( 18 years) and Woolworths( 13 years). The exclusivity we ensure means our competition remains left behind. We are also always experimenting with Woolworth’s technical team to improve methods and develop better ways of producing the best.  The “open book” relationship, compared with thinking long term is definitely a way in the right direction.

Robertson is exclusive to Excellent  in terms of retail supply and because of this we believe to have the same mind-set about quality and integrity of the product we produce.  We produce the cleanest of products and adhere to the highest of grading specifications.  Recently we have worked closely with Excellent to develop some of their best meat products.  Slaughtering dry aged beef which requires building long time relationships with the farmers to get the best animals.  The carcasses are then hip hyper stretched to improve the tenderness of the strip loin. We also helped with the hyper stretching of the lambs which ensures tenderness of the loin.  All lamb sent to Excellent from Robertson is slaughtered this way.

Robertson Abattoir produces excellent quality and we endeavour to be the leader in this market.

“Every industry has its leader”

CASINGS

Roberston has one of the best casing plants in South Africa and produces the finest sheep casings.  This is because they are cleaned within 2 days(max) after slaughter which ensured they are extremely white.

Casings is hand cleaned and salted, no machinery is used.

Below are the different sizes that we supply.

FEEDLOT

Robertson Feedlot was built to add the final growth to lamb before being moved to the abattoir to be slaughtered. It is situated on Roodehoogte Farm, just outside of Robertson town and can accommodate up to 6000 sheep. At Middelburg Farm we keep our cattle to reach the correct weight before being slaughtered.

The abattoir will be developing a beef feedlot in Prieska.  We currently have three farms there which we will use for this purpose.

We strive to have our livestock in excellent shape and weight before being slaughtered.
